This Week in Low Carb News – KetoFest, VirtaHealth and Vegan Lies

Every week my browser fills up with tabs of stories I want to talk about. I never get to them all so this is everything I think is interesting in the Low Carb/Keto/Healthy Diet field from this week.

Ketofest is Coming! – Of all the keto conventions that happen, this one is my favorite to hear about and the one I would most like to attend. The food and festive atmosphere seems like it would be a blast. You should definitely consider attending.

A Plant-Based Meal Increases Gastrointestinal Hormones and Satiety More Than an Energy- and Macronutrient-Matched Processed-Meat Meal in T2D, Obese, and Healthy Men: A Three-Group Randomized Crossover Study – This is an absolutely amazing study that was released this week. 1 group is given a hamburger and another group is given a vegetarian tofu burger and of course the tofu burger group is more satisfied and shows better blood markers. But wait! Turns out there was a crucial difference between the 2 groups food intake buried way down in Table 2. See if you can spot it. “either a processed-meat burger meal (M-meal; cooked-pork seasoned meat in a wheat bun, tomato, cheddar-type cheese, lettuce, spicy sauce) together with 300 mL Café Latte with 21 g sugar, or a plant-based meal (V-meal; tofu burger with spices, ketchup, mustard, tomato, lettuce and cucumber in a wheat bun) together with 300 mL of unsweetened green tea.” That’s right, the meat group got basically a sugary coffee flavored shake and the vegan group got unsweetened tea. This is how vegans have to cook their results to show how much better the vegan diet is over a meat based diet. They have been doing this for decades and people have paid the price with their health. Don’t ever believe a pro-vegan study, Vegans lie.

Reversing Type 2 Diabetes: A Narrative Review of the Evidence – Dr Sarah Hallberg just continues to show more and more evidence of the power of the Ketogenic diet to reverse Type 2 Diabetes. VirtaHealth is a Godsend!

Bad diets killing more people globally than tobacco, study finds – Of course I would agree with the premise of the article but the conclusion that we need more grains, fruits and vegetables is just misguided. We need to focus on meat first and then add vegetables and dairy as needed. Nothing wrong with a little fruit from time to time but those whole grains need to be fed to cows, not humans.

Death of the Calorie – Counting calories doesn’t work. It’s never worked and it will never work for the majority of people. There are always outliers but they are just that, outliers. Stop worrying about the amount you eat and start focusing on what you eat. Make it nutritionally dense and make sure it doesn’t spike insulin.

Nutritional psychiatry: can you eat yourself happier? – It has always seemed odd to me that the idea that you are what you eat seems to stop at the neck. If the health of your body depends in large part on the type of food you eat, shouldn’t the health of the mind be affected by food intake as well? Of course it does and I can’t wait for this idea to take further root in the scientific community.

The Brain Needs Animal Fat – Another article on the same topic from Dr Georgia Ede.

The keto diet can help people breathe easier — literally – Interesting article on Yahoo Sports of all places about the benefits of keto for COPD. One of the biggest benefits for me was the end of my asthma and the ability to breath easier.

Pretty sure this one is fake. At least I hope it is.
