I am a full-grown adult human man in America and as such I’ve become accustomed to politicians promising me one thing and delivering something quite different. Under Clinton I was told “It’s the economy stupid” and got a complete hollowing out of the middle class as all the manufacturing jobs were sent overseas with NAFTA and China’s Preferred Nation trading status. Under Bush I was promised lower taxes and got the beginning of forever wars and an growing National debt. Under Obama I was promised Hope and Change and got more war and drone bombings of innocent civilians. Under Trump I I was promised an end to the deep state and got 4 years of the deep state lying about Russiagate. Under Biden I was promised a President with a functioning brain and got Biden. And while I’ve certainly got my issues with Trump II, man oh man it looks like I’m getting a massive promise fulfilled.
My X feed is flooded with people who are finding out that their SNAP benefits (Food Stamps) no longer work for soda and snacks. That is absolutely incredible. According to RFK, we are spending $405 Million a DAY on SNAP with 10% going to soda and another 3-7% going to snacks and candies. According to my rough calculations, that is over $60 million dollars every single day being spent by American tax payers to subsidize the junk food industry that is only making Americans fatter and sicker,
I am absolutely amazed that this promise is actually being kept by our politicians. I guess I had gotten so used to politicians not doing the simple things they promise that would make us better and healthier as a country that I just assumed this would never happen but here we are!
Hopefully the results of this will be seen in lower healthcare costs for the poorest among us. Diabetes and other obesity-related diseases are rampant in the communities that use SNAP the most and have other downstream costs for the American taxpayer as these people will also use Medicare and Medicaid benefits to fix the health problems that come from the poor diet that was also being subsidized by the American taxpayer.
So once again, kudos to RFK and the whole MAHA team. They are doing good things and for once, it looks like our politicians are making good decisions that could actually Make America Healthy Again.
